Plasma Skin Resurfacing
Spa Lumina can help you have smoother, firmer, younger-looking skin with Opus Plasma® skin resurfacing treatments in Barrie, Ontario. People from Orillia, Collingwood, and other nearby areas choose these advanced treatments to renew their skin with less pain and downtime than traditional laser skin resurfacing treatments.
What Is Skin Resurfacing?
Skin resurfacing, most commonly using a laser, is the most dramatic nonsurgical procedure to repair and renew the skin to address a wide range of skin concerns. Fractional-based skin resurfacing is a modern skin resurfacing method that involves creating a pattern of microscopic injuries to a fraction of the skin. This stimulates a natural wound healing response exciting the skin to repair itself. The type of injury can vary depending on the type of fractional-based skin resurfacing technology used.
Why Opus Plasma?
Opus Plasma builds upon the popular and widely accepted science of fractional skin resurfacing and advances this field forward with an option that improves the client experience with a novel, new energy source – plasma. With Opus Plasma you can enjoy fractional skin resurfacing results with much less downtime.
What Can Opus Plasma Treat?
- Skin texture
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Acne scarring and other scars
- Stretch Marks
What Should I Expect?
Opus Plasma is a quick, 15 minute treatment performed following an application of a topical anesthetic. During your consultation your treatment provider will assess your skin to personalize the best treatment plan for you. While you should begin to enjoy noticeable improvements following your first treatment, 2 to 3 treatments may be recommended for optimal results. Treatments are recommended to be spaced at 4 to 6 weeks apart.

This too will depend on your treatment plan recommended by your provider. A clinical study has shown that Opus Plasma required 50% less downtime when compared to a fractional skin resurfacing technology using a laser. When using moderate settings the downtime is minimal. You may experience 24-48 hours of mild to moderate redness and swelling – not significant to interfere with your daily activities.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Opus Plasma?
Opus Plasma was developed to be a versatile tool for your treatment provider to address a wide demographic of clients or different age groups, skin types, and skin concerns. Your treatment provider can dial the energy up or down to personalize the right treatment plan for your needs.
Plasma Skin Resurfacing vs. Microneedling
When it comes to improving skin texture and tone, both plasma skin resurfacing and microneedling offer effective, minimally invasive options. While they share the goal of rejuvenating the skin, these treatments work in different ways and deliver distinct results. Understanding how they compare can help you choose the right option for your unique needs.
Plasma Skin Resurfacing | Microneedling (Secret™ RF) | |
How It Works | Uses fractional plasma energy to heat and remove damaged outer layers of skin while stimulating deep collagen production | Uses fine needles and radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen in the deeper layers of the skin without ablating the surface |
Best For | – Deep wrinkles and lines – Significant sun damage – Acne scars and texture irregularities – Skin tightening | – Fine lines and early signs of aging – Enlarged pores – Mild skin laxity – Acne scars and general tone |
Ideal Candidates | Clients seeking more dramatic resurfacing with longer-lasting results; willing to manage more downtime | Clients wanting subtle, buildable results with minimal downtime and gradual improvement |
Downtime | Moderate to significant (5–10 days of redness, peeling, and recovery) | Minimal (1–3 days of redness and sensitivity) |
Benefits | – More aggressive skin renewal – Lifting and tightening – Long-lasting improvement after 1–2 sessions | – Gentle collagen stimulation – Suitable for all skin types – Can be repeated regularly |
Drawbacks | – Requires more downtime – Not ideal for all skin tones – May involve more discomfort during healing | – More subtle results per session – Multiple treatments needed for optimal effect |

Our Advanced Skin Analysis System
At Spa Lumina, we offer OBSERV® 520, an advanced skin imaging system that uses sophisticated skin illumination technology to analyze diverse facial skin features, including texture, pigmentation, vascularity, wrinkles, volume, and contour. It also features a patented face positioning system, which uses visual feedback technology to help us consistently capture important angles of your face in high definition. A study published in Dermatology Times favorably compared OBSERV 520 to two other skin imaging systems.
Using the detailed images produced by the OBSERV 520 device, our skin experts diagnose specific skin conditions and pinpoint the best comprehensive treatment plan to improve your skin’s appearance and health.
