BOTOX blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. BOTOX relaxes the muscles so they do not contract. The contraction of the muscle is the culprit causing the wrinkles. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.
BOTOX vs. JUVÉDERM®
While both BOTOX and JUVÉDERM are injectable facial rejuvenation treatments, they have different benefits and work in different ways. BOTOX is a wrinkle treatment that temporarily stops the contractions of treated facial muscles, which allows the overlying skin to smooth out gradually. JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler that adds volume within the skin to instantly smooth out smile lines, restore volume around the eyes and on the cheeks, sculpt the lips, and more. How is BOTOX different from Dysport®?
Both BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport use the same active ingredients to reduce muscle activity and smooth wrinkles, but they’re distinctly different products. Most of their differences are related to their consistencies. Dysport is thinner and tends to “spread” more. Our doctors prefer BOTOX because it’s better at staying where it’s administered. This typically creates more predictable results.
Are BOTOX treatments safe?
BOTOX injections have been used safely and effectively since the 1980s and have been clinically proven to be safe in nearly all cases. Each year, thousands of clients receive BOTOX treatments for a variety of conditions, including excessive sweating and migraines, and it is quickly becoming a popular treatment to reverse the visible signs of aging.
What are BOTOX treatments like?
Using the smallest needle available, our doctors will gently inject a very small amount of BOTOX precisely into several locations on the face. There is very little pain (most people say it feels like a bug bite). No anesthesia is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately. Some clients experience a slight temporary bruising at the injection site which can easily be covered with makeup.
What can I expect after treatment?
You will NOT be allowed to rub the injection site, do any strenuous physical activity, or lie down for 4 hours after, as it can result in the BOTOX spreading to unwanted areas and causing undesirable (but temporary) drooping. After 4 hours, there are no restrictions at all.
When will I see results?
Muscles treated with BOTOX usually start to relax within a few days and reach maximum relaxation within 2 weeks.
How long do BOTOX results last?
About 3 to 4 months after the first treatment, the wrinkles gradually return. Since the majority of clients are happy with the results of their therapy, they return for another treatment when they notice the effects beginning to wear off. If you have a second treatment before the treated muscles have returned to their old bad habits, your second treatment will usually last longer. If you continue to come in for treatments, you will generally find that the effects last longer after each one.
What’s the best alternative to BOTOX?
You can minimize fine lines and wrinkles with treatments such as Laser Genesis, plasma skin resurfacing with Opus Plasma®, and Secret™ RF microneedling.
What’s a BOTOX brow lift?
If you have mild brow sagging, BOTOX injections are a nonsurgical alternative to a brow lift. The procedure slightly elevates the brows, reducing wrinkles and creating a more alert and rested appearance.
