Certain wrinkles emerge gradually after repeated contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles. This happens every time you smile, laugh or frown. While you may have earned every one of those smile lines, you don't have to show them anymore.
Spa Lumina offers BOTOX COSMETIC treatments in Barrie, Ontario, to help clients from Collingwood, Newmarket, Orillia, Innisfil, and other central Ontario cities to smooth away facial wrinkles.
Benefits of BOTOX
BOTOX is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world because it effectively addresses various signs of facial aging. It reduces the appearance of wrinkles between the brows, on the forehead, and around the eyes that develop over time.
Frowning Wrinkles: Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows often referred to as "the 11s" create a permanent frowning expression. Our Physician Injectors use BOTOX to relax the 3 strong muscles that cause these glabellar lines.
Forehead Wrinkles: The skin on your forehead crinkles when you raise or arch your eyebrows. This gradually etches deep horizontal lines across your forehead, making you look older. We use a conservative approach to treat these wrinkles to avoid getting unwanted results that can sometimes occur when less experienced Injectors perform the treatment.
Crow's Feet: Men and women who smile and squint a lot are probably quite familiar with crow's feet those branch-like lines at the outer corners of the eye. BOTOX injections are a popular and effective choice for smoothing out this area, and some clients start treatment in their late 20s or early 30s.

How does BOTOX work?
BOTOX blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. BOTOX relaxes the muscles so they do not contract. The contraction of the muscle is the culprit causing the wrinkles. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

BOTOX vs. JUVÉDERM®
While both BOTOX and JUVÉDERM are injectable facial rejuvenation treatments, they have different benefits and work in different ways. BOTOX is a wrinkle treatment that temporarily stops the contractions of treated facial muscles, which allows the overlying skin to smooth out gradually. JUVÉDERM is a dermal filler that adds volume within the skin to instantly smooth out smile lines, restore volume around the eyes and on the cheeks, sculpt the lips, and more. Clients who want an overall refreshed look may benefit from a combination of BOTOX and JUVÉDERM for a Soft Lift™ or a LUMINA LIFT that also includes laser skin rejuvenation.
Allergan MD Codes
Allergan MD Codes, developed by plastic surgeon Dr. Mauricio de Maio, are a precise and methodical approach to facial anti-aging treatments that recognize the need to consider the entire face by mapping a series of specific injection points. By combining BOTOX COSMETIC with other cosmetic injectable treatments such as JUVÉDERM dermal fillers our Physicians can deliver comprehensive facial rejuvenation results without surgery.
Because each client's face and reason for seeking treatment is unique, our Physicians adjust their approaches based on the person's needs and motivation. Instead of looking at lines and folds in isolation, we focus on the full picture and discuss with clients how they want to feel after getting the injections.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is BOTOX different from Dysport?
Both BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport use the same active ingredients to reduce muscle activity and smooth wrinkles, but they're distinctly different products. Most of their differences are related to their consistencies. Dysport is thinner and tends to "spread" more. Our Doctors prefer BOTOX because it's better at staying where it's administered. This typically creates more predictable results.
Are BOTOX treatments safe?
BOTOX injections have been used safely and effectively since the 1980's and have been clinically proven to be safe in over 99.9% of all cases. Each year, thousands of clients receive BOTOX treatments for a variety of conditions including excessive sweating, and migraines, and it is quickly becoming a popular treatment to reverse the visible signs of aging.
What are BOTOX treatments like?
Using the smallest needle available, our Doctors will gently inject a very small amount of BOTOX, precisely into several locations on the face. There is very little pain (most people say it feels like a bug bite). No anesthesia is required, and you can resume normal activities immediately. Some clients experience a slight temporary bruising at the injection site which can easily be covered with make-up.
What can I expect after treatment?
You will NOT be allowed to rub the injection site, do any strenuous physical activity, or lie down for four hours after, as it can result in the BOTOX spreading to unwanted areas and causing undesirable (but temporary) drooping. After 4 hours, there are no restrictions at all.
When will I see results?
Muscles treated with BOTOX usually start to relax within a few days, and reach maximum relaxation within 2 weeks.
How long do BOTOX results last?
About 3 to 4 months after the first treatment, the wrinkles gradually return. Since the majority of clients are happy with the results of their therapy, they return for another treatment when they notice the effects beginning to wear off. If you have a second treatment before the treated muscles have returned to their old bad habits, your second treatment will usually last longer. If you continue to come in for treatments, you will generally find that the effects last longer after each one.
